DESCRIPTION : The Jaguar filter has a superior signal path due the design and the use of high quality components. The audio path has zero distortion with ultra low noise for a clean sound. The audio input is sensitive and when at full attenuation and can provide distortion of the incoming signal. Self-oscillation is stable with 1v/oct tracking. The waveform produced is a pure sine wave with zero distortion. At a high output volume the resonance will 'square-off' for that extra nasty sound. With oscillations as low as 8 hz one should take care with the bass bins , as modulated oscillations can be a good workout for them. The filter has a special range control not found on other types of ssm based vcf which can act as a pseudo vca, or to filter strong signals with excellent results. The range control and the frequency control can be view as coarse and fine frequency controls. This is a very strong and versatile filter with a massive fat sound, similar to that of ladder filters found in the famous Moog synthesizers. The behavior of this VCF is similar as well, as in that the resonance when increased will lower the gain of the signal. USES: Although designed directly for use within a modular environment , this vcf can be used as a stand along or within a custom synthesizer. The only requirement is that it gets 12-15v +/-. Polystyrene capacitors are highly recommended although other caps can be used , each type will have a different sound. A 1k 3000ppm PTC (Positive Temperature Compensated) Resistor is needed for stable oscillation , stepping and wandering will occur if it is not used. A 1% 1k resistor can be used if self oscillation is not used. 1k PTCs can be brought from Farnell (UK AU/NZ), Mouser (US) , The Precision Resistor Company(US) and other well stocked suppliers. It will be a board to fit vertical mount pots and vertical mount Lumberg 3.5mm jacks with allowances for banana jacks. This will be connected to the main board via a 20pin connector. This is not needed for general DIY use but for ease of construction for those who dislike fly wires. The ETA of this board along with a face plate will be around June-2010. PCB is Lead-free with HASL RoSH compliant finish. All components are sourced from a single supplier who supply certificates of origin of components. All resistors are high quality 1% tolerance, high quality Polystyrene capacitors with 2% tolerance , 5% ceramic caps and special Audio grade electrolytic capacitors. Available as 2 versions; JAGUAR PCB KIT: The kit includes a built and tested PCB ready to go. 6x 3.5mm sockets and 8X 16mm Alpha pots are included as shown in the photo. Banana plugs are highly recommended but not currently supplied. Knobs and Faceplate are not included (THESE ARE THE ONLY THINGS YOU NEED EXTRA).
